As you point out, and this blogger states somewhat bluntly, despite the various pros/cons, the biggest barrier for experienced developers seems to be the human nervous system itself.

Each time I start working with emacs again, I try to force myself to learn the default key bindings, thinking that if I were to someday need to use a vanilla emacs installation that knowledge would come in handy. But being so used to Eclipse, the binding and behavior seems awkward and constraining. Old habits die hard. So given how unlikely it is that I'll need to work w/a fresh emacs install, I'm starting to think it would be wise to instead customize emacs to be more compatible with my own finger memory. Although the thought of "Eclipsifying" emacs seems somewhat perverse, perhaps for experienced Eclipse users it would be the best way to leverage their existing conditioning to get the most of out of emacs...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03720329627306415555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3240281421131142620.post-65692683662606094232014-01-20T14:31:56.023-08:002014-01-20T14:31:56.023-08:00Chuck, I meant that although basic editing is much...Chuck, I meant that although basic editing is much quicker and better in emacs, things in Eclipse like autocomplete and inline compilation errors save a lot of time.

These days I still use emacs because it still is faster to do the easy task.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08824457792516833111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3240281421131142620.post-51040452263212798302014-01-17T14:53:20.721-08:002014-01-17T14:53:20.721-08:00I am curious, you say: "All in all, my startu...I am curious, you say: "All in all, my startup time is much quicker for emacs, but I lose time on editing."

but in your blog you go on at length how much faster emacs is than Eclipse.
